Herbal Body Oils – how to care for and maximise the healing benefits of your oils
Let’s start with what herbal body oils are and aren’t.
Herbal Body Oils are whole plant infusions into a base carrier oil. We primarily use organic Australian Olive Oil.
Think – the body of the plant for the body of the person.
This differs greatly from Essential Oils which are potent extracts of the volatile oils – essentially, the part of the plant that smells good.
Caring and storage of your oils
- Shake well before use. Store in a cool dark place. Some sediment is normal.
- Avoid touching the bottle rim or putting fingers inside the bottle as this can lead to contamination. Recap the lid immediately after use to avoid spilling.
- Your herbal oil can last up to 2 years if kept well and out of fluctuating temperatures, light, air, heat, and moisture. If it’s gone bad it will have a rancid smell, unlike the original plant scent.
You may like to invest in a special bath robe to wear after full body applications as oil will leech into your clothes, degrading them over time and leaving a rancid smell. A hot soapy wash will remove odor and stains from clothes, linen and bedding. See below for alternative applications.
How to maximise the benefits of your herbal oils
- You can apply your oils while in the bath or shower (after using soap or body wash). Immersing yourself in warm water with your oils will increase absorption and protect your skin from scolding. Afterwards, any excess oil will be dried off with your towel.
- Body brushing before applying your herbal oils increases circulation and lymphatic flow to support the elimination of waste and dead skin cells. Always brush towards your heart.
- Apply to the soles of your feet to target the reflexology points for the whole body.
- Take your oils to your preferred masseuse and have them applied during a treatment. Luxury service!
- Apply to the pulse points on your wrists for easy and fast absorption into your bloodstream.
- Experiment with making your own salad dressings and marinades with your herbal body oils! Be mindful of which oils are safe for internal consumption and which aren’t.
- Apply as a facial serum after cleansing and toning with a Gua Sha Crystal Stone for a natural face lift.
- Add to a mini oil roller or blend with beeswax for a travel salve or balm.
Apply intentionally and lovingly to the parts of your body that require your healing presence.
Relax, enjoy and may you receive the full benefits of these healing herbal body oils.
